The nearest airport is Guwahati Airport (Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Barjhar). The nearest railway station is Rawta Bagan but this will not be convenient for the people coming from outside of Assam. People can come to Kharupetia directly from Guwahati (Paltan Bazar Railway Station, Kamakhya Railway Station) or Rangia Railway Junction. For the tourists from outside Assam may have to come to Guwahati by train or plain and from Guwahati to Kharupetia by road. Buses will be available at I.S.B.T. (Inter State Bus Terminal) at Lokhra or Machkhowa Bus Station or Jhalukbari Chariali for coming Kharupetia. There are two lodges at this town to accommodate tourists.

This
town is one of the trade and commercial centre in the district as well as state. It is
famous for the trade of agricultural crops and vegetable market. A large number
of towns and places of Assam are supplied vegetables from its market.
There
are so many garages for the body construction and repairing of buses and trucks
& a large number of people are engaged in this garages.
There are a number of Mustard Oil & Rice mills here.
Some Mudi mills are also set up. A jute-rope making mill has also
been set up here. Raw-jute trade has being run from the british period by the traders. RONGALI Brand Super fine Rice and Mustard Oil of Rongali
Oil Mill and Rangali Agro-Tech Pvt. Ltd. have been received cordially by
the customers of Assam. A large number of workers have got employment in this industry.
There are also a number of steel fabrication industry and many youths are earning their livelihood from this profession. There is also a Electric Transformer Repairing and Manufacturing industry in the name "DARRANG ENTERPRISE. There a large number of unemployed youths get their emplpoyment.

History of Kharupetia Town :
Kharupetia Town developed its name from “KHARU”. During the
pre-independent period, the river Brahmaputra was flowing by this place and a
steamer-Ghat was established at this location. A large bangle said “KHARU” was
dug out by some cultivators at the Steamer-Ghat presently known as “MELA-GHAT.
Believed that this “KHARU” was left by some divine mother or Goddess and this
place received its present name from this word “KHADRU”. This Steamer Ghat was
gradually converted into present “KHARUPETIA” After establishment Town
Committee under the Municipal Act, it has been known as “KHARUPETIA TOWN”.

Recently a private institution AJMAL COLLEGE of Arts & Science has been started and students provide Higher Secondary Education in Science and Arts in this college. Maryam Ajmal Women College is also established to provide education for the girls.
There is one Higher Secondary School in this town named KHARUPETIA H.S. SCHOOL (Govt.)
where students provide education from Class VI to XII (Science,
Commerce & Arts) It stands at the heart of the town by NH-52.
There are 4 High Schools. The field is specially famous for Bijaya Dashami where the idols of Devi Durga from Kharupetia and its adjacent places are brought to assembled them. People from various places of Darrang Districts come to visit and enjoy famous Bijoya Dashami at this field.

premises of Assam Club to perform meeting, function, Marriage Ceremony,
Conference etc. By these the public of the town as well as company/
